Hey guys. The other day I was playing around with my NutriBullet and came up with the best little frappaccino/protein shake EVER! After a morning workout I always struggle with the dilemma of trying to chug down both a protein shake and a cup of joe before heading out the door.
The solution? Mix them together! It's amazing- tastes like a mixture between a Mocha Frapp and a Chocolate Smoothie. Here is the recipe I've come up with:
I would advise making your coffee extra strong for this- similar to espresso because you don't want to water down the shake. Plus, you will only be able to use about 1/2 of a cup... and lets face it 1/2 a cup of regular coffee does nothing. ha. So after you have your brew, place 1/2 cup in the freezer for a few minutes to cool it down before you put it in the blender. If you have any extra you can always sip on that to give you a little buzz while you're waiting for the rest to cool off.
Xanthum Gum can be found in the baking isle at the grocery store. A LITTLE GOES A LONG WAY-- USE SPARINGLY. I bought little individual serving size packets of them- and yet I still only use about 1/10 of the packet. For those of you who have never used it before- it's basically just a thickening agent. If you've ever tried replicating your favorite recipe before and it's come out flat-- it's likely that this is the small ingredient you are missing.
I'm currently loving this chocolate protein smoothie powder from Vega One -- but pretty much any protein powder will do. There are some really great tasting ones out there such as Snickerdoodle and Peanut Butter from PEScience-- but I am sensitive to certain milk proteins so I have to stick with Vegan Proteins for the most part. But hey- at least I'm sneaking in 2 servings of Veggies with this one. Bonus!
I mix up a little PB2 on the side and add it on top with some FF whipped cream sometimes.
Just gives it a little more creaminess :)
Hope y'all enjoy this as much as I am!
XO,
Abby
